Somatic and trauma work is gentle, trauma-informed therapy that helps you understand and shift the patterns that keep you stuck in survival mode. It’s led by Jessica Sjouerman, a certified Compassionate Inquiry practitioner, and combines compassionate presence, somatic processing and deep relational attunement to help you safely explore unresolved trauma, stress patterns, emotional pain and disconnection from yourself.
Compassionate Inquiry was developed by Dr Gabor Maté as a way of uncovering the unconscious dynamics and suppressed emotions that quietly run our lives. Somatic work addresses the other half of the picture: how those experiences are held in the body, not just remembered. Together, they reach what talking and insight alone often can’t.
At NeuroVita, this work is one part of a broader brain health offering, available alongside the NeuroVitals Assessment, coaching and other support, with Jessica providing the somatic and trauma work.

Sixty-minute sessions with Jessica, available online or in person in Cape Town.

Safety comes first and you stay in control throughout. The work moves at your pace and never pushes past what feels manageable.

Working with the unconscious dynamics, coping strategies, core beliefs and unresolved emotional patterns that shape how you feel and relate.

Reconnecting with the body to safely feel what has been suppressed, and beginning to shift trauma that is held physically rather than only remembered.

Jessica Sjouerman is a certified Compassionate Inquiry® practitioner and one of only two certified CI practitioners in South Africa. She holds an Honours degree in Medical Biochemistry and brings a varied background across yoga, bodywork, crisis counselling and teen resilience education.
After years of trying to think her way out of anxiety and chronic pain, she found that insight alone doesn’t heal. Her own healing has come through attuned, compassionate connection and learning to listen to the body. Living with chronic pain continues to teach her that the body often expresses what words cannot, and that trauma is embodied, not just remembered.
She works with people navigating grief, significant life transitions, leadership pressures and chronic stress, and has a particular care for highly sensitive people who learned to shrink themselves to stay safe. Working online with clients worldwide, she creates a safe, warm relational space and supports people to reconnect with themselves.
